Spiros Ornerakis was born in Hania, Crete, in 1942. At the age of 18 he came to Athens and studied Interior Design and Stage Design. He first worked as a graphic designer in the field of advertising.
In 1971 he started working as cartoonist. Very quickly he became one of the most sought after cartoonists by all the Greek newspapers and magazines. Since 1984 he has been a cartoonist of "Ta Nea", the top selling newspaper in Greece
He was chosen to be the official cartoonist in court during the big trial of the Greek Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou, in 1991. The cartoons were published daily and in an album afterwards.
Although Ornerakis draws all types of cartoons, it is for his caricatures that he is unrivalled in Greece
At the same time he has worked as a stage designer and cartoonist for theatre and television. He was co-host and guest in many television shows. He designs the costumes, sets and games for the PanEuropean show "Games Without Frontiers".
Book illustration has also absorbed a great part of his artistic activity. He has illustrated the Greek official high school and primary school schoolbooks, children's books, short stories, novels and poems.
